Association with National Programme on Earthquake Engineering Education (NPEEE)
In
its endeavor to be equipped with latest technological advancements & projects
institution is closely associated with participating various activities of NPEEE
a project taken up by ministry of MHRD, Government of India executed by the IIT
Bombay, Kanpur, Roorkee, Delhi & IISC Banglore.
About NPEEE :-
Earthquake engineering developments started rather early in India.
For instance, development of the first seismic zone map and of the earthquake resistant
features for masonry buildings took place in 1930’s, and formal teaching and
research in earthquake engineering started in late 1950’s. Despite an early
start, the seismic risk in the country has been increasing rapidly in the recent
years. Many recent earthquakes (See Annex B) have clearly underlined the inadequate
preparedness of the country to face damaging earthquakes.
Most deaths during an earthquake are caused by collapse
of man-made structures. Moreover, current scientific knowledge in nowhere close
to being able to make successful short or medium-term predictions of damaging earthquakes.
Hence, the most important step towards a earthquake-resilient India is to build
capacity in our civil engineering and architectural professionals for ensuring earthquake
resistant constructions.
The National Programme on Earthquake Engineering Education (NPEEE) aims at developing
better teaching capabilities within the country in the crucial area of Earthquake
Engineering. The country is prone to unacceptably large earthquake risk that needs
to be reduced by a variety of means. However, in any endeavor towards seismic risk
reduction, the lack of adequate quality and quantity of manpower is a major bottleneck
in our country. NPEEE is meant for developing capacity within the engineering and
architectural institutions of the country in this subject The main vehicle of this
change is the training of teachers and curriculum development.
Our participation in earthquake related activities component wise is as follows:-
(a)Trainings: -

(b)Library Grant: - We are privileged to be selected amongst
100 institutions of the country for Library grant.
(c)Development of Curricula: -
(1) Institution has submitted a proposal to university & Government for conducting
Workshop on “ Introduction of Earthquake Engineering in syllabus of
Degree & Diploma of Rajeev Gandhi Technical University .
(2) Mr. Ashish Dongre(Former Prinicipal and Now secratery, RGPV ) & Mr. R.S.
Sisodiya have attended Workshop on “Inclusion of Earthquake related topics
in Diploma Civil Engineering “ Held at Technical Teachers Training Institute,
Bhopal on 31.05.2005
(d)Dissemination of Knowledge: -
(1) Department of Civil Engineering is regularly providing consultancy for
Earthquake Resistant R.C.C. design of various Government & Public Buildings.
(2)Workshop on “Awareness of Earthquake Resistant Construction’ was
held at the institution’s Audio Visual Hall in which about 70 civil engineers
from Government & Private Sectors participated.
(3)A National level workshop on ” Earthquake Resistant Construction &
Disaster Management “is proposed in Jan.’2007.
(4)An earthquake resistant geodesic dome is constructed in the College premises
under Community Polytechnic’s technology transfer scheme.
(5)We are Regularly getting information on topics such as recent trends, report
on Bhuj Earthquake, reconstruction technical report on Tsunami Waves
etc. through various publications of NPEEE & ISET.
(6) A National workshop /seminar was held at this Institution on
12th &13th Jan’2006
